Tall Buildings India on 31 January – 1 February 2011 in Mumbai

Tall Buildings India on 31 January – 1 February 2011 in Mumbai

India's rapid growth and urbanisation have led to the need for tall buildings and high-rise structures in the region. With 50% of India's population expected to live in the urban areas by 2030, there is a great demand for tall buildings and high-rise structures in the residential and commercial space. Therefore, the Indian real-estate industry is now exploring the vertical space to overcome challenges in landacquisition, space and costs. India is set to be the next big home for the tallest skyscrapers in the world, with the Indian government beginning to focus on regulatory measures for high-rise structures.

Based on the response to our Tall Buildings Asia conference, IQPC is proud to announce the launch of Tall Buildings India on 31 January – 1 February 2011 in Mumbai. Tall Buildings India will focus on the latest trends, challenges and opportunities in the design, construction and operation of high-rise structures in India. The event will showcase case studies on some of the most interesting and challenging projects in the region and across the globe. The event will also cover new sustainable practices and all aspects related to the design and construction of a tall building.

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ‘HEALTHY CITIES : A PERSPECTIVE OF ASIAN CONCERNS’

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON 'HEALTHY CITIES : A PERSPECTIVE OF ASIAN CONCERNS'

More than half the people of the world now live in urban centers. The number and size of cities has undergone an unprecedented growth over the last century, especially in the developing world. Large scale migration from hinterlands, concentration of economic opportunities in urban pockets, shortage of housing, unplanned growth, coexistence and proliferation of extravagant buildings and the squalor of slums, problems outpacing solutions have been the characteristics of the growth of these urban centers. If health is an indicator of the well-being of an organism, the application of this metaphor to a city would give indications on the good performance of the city on various counts. What could be these aspects of a city that would best indicate its health?  What results of this assessment would suggest whether a city is healthy or sick ?

The conference 'Healthy Cities : Perspective of Asian Concerns' to be held in Pune from 3-5th February, 2011, organised by MKSSS's Dr B N College of Architecture for Women aims to probe into these questions and arrive at a broad definition of healthy cities. The event is supported by the Indian Institute of Architects. The conference would like to look more closely at these Asian cities and their concerns, while it seeks and welcomes world wide perspectives on them.India being the host country as well as a link in all respects between East and West Asia, would also be of special interest to the conference.

A workshop 'Healthy Rivers – Healthy Cities' will also be conducted in Pune where the students of colleges of Pune and Mumbai will work on the River of Pune under the guidance of National and International Mentors.

For sending abstracts for peer reviewed papers and Conference Registration details are available on the conference website www.healthycities.in
